Satire still dead

My thanks to Jean on Twitter for pointing me to this mental anti-smoking advert (from 2011) which aims to mop up the last of California's incurable hypochondriacs.

I can't embed the video, but click here to have your mind blown.

  1. Most welcome, but the credit must go to Ann Coulter who, in here latest column, interestingly compares several sorts of stigmatization (and cites the video as example): http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2013-03-13.html

  2. Actually, they still can make a video where the smoke crosses the Atlantic, or opens a door with a key and penetrates a closed room. Maybe they will.

  3. Yes I've seen that one. Have they no shame at all?

  4. Welcome to the deranged fantasy world of the neurotic antismoking bigots where the laws of physics and the rules of coherent reasoning are suspended.

I think there’s another advert - a variation on a [twisted] theme – where a “fully formed” cloud of smoke from a smoker’s apartment exits from the electricity socket in a nonsmoker’s apartment wrapping itself around the face of a small child playing on the floor. It’s stuff that’s straight out of, say, “The Blob”. These antismoking putzes are delusional. They shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near public policy formulation. Unfortunately, there are gullible, easily manipulated fools – particularly in Califraudia, that believe this trash…… they eagerly lap it up and demand “protection”.

On another note, comedy has usually been an outlet to vent against authoritarianism in its many forms. Not so these days. It’s stomach-churning watching “comedians” promote healthist propaganda. This is what passes for “comedy” these days:

  5. The laws of physics allow that a bronze statue will wave as you walk past, climb off it's pedestel and follow you home. It doesn't happen very often but it can happen.

  6. I like Jean G's suggestion best.

Somebody ought to start emailing these people with ever more implausible suggestions as to what smoke can do, see if they actually film it.

  7. Dear Mr Snowdon

It's clever the way tobacco smoke particles stick together and target only babies' lungs.

Strange how the exhaust fumes from passing traffic haven't learnt that trick.

Perhaps they aren't malevolent enough. Yet.

    Second hand traffic fumes, anyone?

    Ah, not this week ...

  8. There are parallels between this derangement and the lunatic Muslim conspiracy theories about the Jews being responsible for most or all of their ills.

Perfectly normal seeming people can believe really crazy stuff.

  9. It might just me but I think that the smoke turned into the Grimm Reaper at the end of the video. The baby is looking directly into the skull and there is a skeleton hand coming down towards the baby.
