In this way the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed.” Guess who?Mr Anoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3585028625507474093.post-2175340967918146912012-07-24T14:43:01.594+01:002012-07-24T14:43:01.594+01:00Indeed SadButMadLad, there is no obesity crisis. When I was a child we visited a tudor cottage. The stair treads were far too narrow to be comfortably negotiated by a full grown man in the 1970's. Since when was this a bad thing? When average shoe size increases, as it has been for the last four decades, then you know this has nothing to do with fat. Feet are mostly bone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3585028625507474093.post-56715344979844842642012-07-24T14:26:54.757+01:002012-07-24T14:26:54.757+01:00Not forgetting that there isn't any obesity ep...Not forgetting that there isn't any obesity epidemic. But that's really the point. Freedom is about accepting and tolerating things you don't like, and defending people's right to make choices you disapprove of. If nobody ever said or did anything you didn't like, there wouldn't be much point.Curmudgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02558747878308766840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3585028625507474093.post-79317364434306082512012-07-24T12:50:03.457+01:002012-07-24T12:50:03.457+01:00Thank you, Christopher, for the mention -- much ap...Thank you, Christopher, for the mention -- much appreciated!

All the same arguments in this proposed soda ban were aired in the 1980s with the non-smoking flights of under two hours. Things like: 'That's all we're asking for', 'It's not such a big deal', 'You won't die going without a ciggie for two hours', 'If you can't be deprived of your cigarettes for two hours, you have a problem'.

Now look where we are. It didn't take long to go from the two-hour flights to all flights being made non-smoking by the end of the 1990s. There might have been one or two holdouts until 2001.

I've really enjoyed reading your blog over the past several years and look forward to more of your insights.

Best wishes
ChurchmouseAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
