Much of the opprobrium directed to certain foods has much more to do with their image of being guzzled by the poor than with their actual nutritional content.

Would the tax apply to bread? Or lettuce? Or cheese? Or lean beef? So how would you get it to apply to Big Macs, then?Curmudgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02558747878308766840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3585028625507474093.post-77901889443450140942010-11-13T06:38:56.742+00:002010-11-13T06:38:56.742+00:00here comes prohibition in the United States. Wash...here comes prohibition in the United States. Washington State Liquor Control Board has arbitrarily banned alcoholic energy drinks using the weak and pretext that college kids are abusing these legal alternatives to huffing paint or some other substitution which is bound to be worse than the safe and legal products being banned.

it seemed like around the time that the berlin wall fell and eastern governments begab ramping down the authoritarianism the pendulum continued to swing. In the west, in very tough economic times, local and federal governments keep taking on arbitrary fees and making more and more restrictive laws.

The economically predictable result is that things will only get "worse" and more laws will be needed as the US with its high per capita incarceration rate climbs even higher with this and the other restrictions that are coming.

If people don't have safe and legal products to alter their consciousness in times of stress, the phase becomes reinforced and habitual behavior is reinforced with less safe alternatives.

The west, sadly, along with much of the rest of the world is moving in the wrong direction with regards to freedom. If people aren't allowed to make decisions that are legal, they will surely make them illegally with a force multiplier.

Governments are seeding their own moral panics and future justification. Same as always. Do it goes. Time to find an island.Richard 23noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3585028625507474093.post-19130712301987405572010-11-13T03:24:15.582+00:002010-11-13T03:24:15.582+00:00Any type of food, when overate, will make you gain...Any type of food, when overate, will make you gain weight.

It is just as easy to be fat on bread, pasta and potatoes as it is with the so called "junk food"

Calories must equal energy used.

When calories are higher, weight gain occurs, when energy used is higher weight loss occurs. It is simple math.

And of course being thin does not automatically mean that you are eating healthy nor does being over weight mean that you are not.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
